Lovely Yoki is a 21 month old entire male who has come into rescue from Council kennels. He is looking for the perfect match – a home where he can continue to mature mentally and physically, in a safe environment.
A tall, skinny chap at present, he will be a big lad when he puts weight on and fills out. He is developing a lovely laid back nature and it is apparent he has had training in the past – he knows sit, wait, lie down, paw, touch, come. He is affectionate and calm in the house – though he does find human-food a bit tempting and will eat it if he can reach it! He is happiest with company, and attaches himself quickly to women, takes longer with men. He has been left for short periods, and while he finds this stressful, he isn’t destructive. He is not crate trained and becomes very anxious when contained in one so would require careful introductions and training if one were to be used in the future.
He walks calmly on lead – but can be strong if there is something he finds exciting or new. His recall is reliable if there is nothing to distract him. He is polite around other dogs, restrained when introduced to new people and is a good car traveller. Eager to learn and to please, he works well for food rewards and praise but needs to be kept active and engaged. He is very good at solving problems to get what he wants e.g. he has learnt how to open doors with handles and will counter surf to find food.
Yoki is also very agile and more than capable of jumping fencing and gates when he finds something exciting. He is not safe off lead around livestock – he will find and chase them. He needs a home where he can be safeguarded and his talents channelled appropriately. Please note as we have no history, we will not rehome him with small children or cats. If you are an experienced Dobe owner and feel you can offer Yoki what he needs, please complete an enquiry form.
